Blinded, or Fartblinda, is Swedish crime from a different angle.
No forest corpse. No remote village. No detective walking through snow with a dead look in his eyes.
Here, the danger is money.
And I love that, because Nordic noir does not always have to be about murder. Sometimes the crime is hidden in numbers, bank reports, polished offices, expensive coats and people who speak very calmly while everything around them is morally collapsing.
The series follows Bea Farkas, a financial journalist investigating suspicious activity inside the banking world. She is smart, ambitious, and compromised in the most human way because she is personally connected to the world she is investigating. That is what gives the story its tension. She is not standing outside the mess, clean and superior. She is already inside it.
Stockholm looks different here from the usual crime drama Stockholm. It is not only police stations and dark streets. It is glass, finance, status, newspapers, apartments, restaurants, suits and reputation. But the atmosphere is still very Nordic. Cold. Controlled. Quietly brutal.
What makes Blinded interesting is that everyone is watching everyone else, but nobody wants to see the truth. The title is perfect. People are blinded by power, desire, money, loyalty, ambition, lifestyle. They are not stupid. They just do not want the truth to ruin the life they have built.
And Bea is a strong character because she is not perfect. I prefer that. Perfect women in dramas can become boring very quickly. Bea makes mistakes. She wants things. She crosses lines. But she also keeps looking. She keeps digging. That makes her alive.
For me, Blinded belongs in the Nordic noir conversation because it expands the map. It shows that the crime scene can be a boardroom. A spreadsheet. A press room. A marriage. A bank account. A lie dressed in expensive language.
And that is very Swedish noir too: clean surfaces, quiet panic, and the slow discovery that respectability can be just another costume.
