About Mapped in Drama

Mapped in Drama is a blog about European TV series, the places they are filmed, and the stories that stay with us after the episode ends.

I have always watched drama through details. The light in a room. The colour of a coat. The way someone moves through a city. A kitchen table, a staircase, a police station, a coastline, a village road. Sometimes the smallest visual thing tells you more about a character than a long speech ever could.

This is not a normal TV review blog.

I am interested in where the story lives.

Why does the bridge between Sweden and Denmark in Bron/Broen / The Bridge feel like a character in itself?
Why does Genoa feel completely different in Blanca and Petra?
Why does a detective’s wardrobe, flat, street or city change the way we understand her?

Mapped in Drama is about those details.

I also care about the way characters are seen. The ones who do not always fit easily into the world around them. The ones who experience a city, a workplace, a family or a relationship differently. A good drama can make us notice people we may normally misunderstand, overlook, or reduce to one simple label.

That is one of the reasons European series interest me so much. They often let a place breathe. They allow language, silence, rhythm, food, architecture and social tension to become part of the story. Watching a series in its own language, with its own humour and pauses and local habits, makes the world feel more honest.

Sometimes I watch for the plot.
Sometimes I watch for the place.
Sometimes I watch because a character stays in my head and I want to understand why.

Mapped in Drama is where television, travel, character and place meet.
